Smile Patient Toolkit
App Privacy Policy
After the Visit. Your next step, made clearer.
Updated October 13, 2026 for the iPhone and iPad app, version 1.0.
Your personal plan stays on your device
No account is required. Visit notes, checklist items, appointments and saved resource identifiers are stored in the device Keychain using a protection class that is accessible while the device is unlocked. They are not uploaded to the foundation, synced to iCloud Keychain, or transferred to another device through a backup. The foundation cannot retrieve or recover your plan. There is no connection to your medical record or clinic messaging system.
Keychain items may remain after uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Use Settings → Clear my plan & saved items before uninstalling if you want to erase this information. This removes the saved personal plan and bookmarks from the app. Avoid entering information you do not want someone using your unlocked device to see.
Preferences and offline educational content
Reading language, chosen care location and text size are stored locally. Care location is a choice of general, United States or India; it does not use GPS. Public educational content is bundled in the app and cached after a successful update. Downloaded worksheet caches are excluded from device backup. Clearing the personal plan does not delete public toolkit information or reading preferences.
In the browser preview, personal notes, checklist items, appointments and bookmarks are temporary and clear when the page reloads. The public toolkit cache and preferences may remain in browser storage. The web toolkit has its own behavior; this app policy describes the mobile app and its preview.
Automatic updates and connection information
The app contacts helpingotherssmile.org for public toolkit changes at launch, when it becomes active, when connectivity returns and periodically while active. You can also check for updates in Settings. New or revised worksheets are downloaded when you open them. The app verifies the expected worksheet version before viewing it. Existing bundled or previously cached content remains available offline.
These requests send normal web connection information such as IP address, browser or device information, requested address, time and response status to the foundation’s hosting infrastructure. A worksheet request can reveal which public worksheet was opened. Your visit notes, appointments, checklist, bookmarks and search terms are never included in these requests. There is no advertising or analytics SDK and no account or advertising identifier sent by the app.
The website uses Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure. The website’s Cloudflare Worker configuration enables persisted technical request logs. These logs can include the requested public feed or worksheet address, request method, response details and technical metadata. They are used to deliver content, investigate failures and maintain security and reliability. Current Cloudflare Workers documentation lists retention of three days on Free and seven days on Paid; the foundation’s hosting tier and exact persisted metadata fields have not been independently verified. These requests never include your private visit notes, appointments, checklist, bookmarks or search terms. See the Cloudflare privacy policy. We do not use app connection information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Sources, printing and sharing
Official source links open the publisher’s website and use its privacy practices. The publisher may receive connection information and information associated with your existing browser session. The app does not receive that publisher’s account credentials. Worksheets use the device’s native preview, printing and sharing controls. They contain educational information and blank fields; the app does not insert your private visit notes.
Permissions and educational scope
The app does not request contacts, photos, microphone, camera, location or HealthKit access. It does not diagnose conditions or provide personal treatment instructions. Consult a qualified healthcare professional before making medical decisions. For an emergency use your local emergency number; U.S. 911 and India 112.
Questions and policy changes
Contact manavrungta@helpingotherssmile.org for support or privacy questions. Information you choose to send in a support email is received by the foundation; do not include patient records or sensitive medical details. We cannot access a plan that exists only on your device.
We will update this policy when the app’s privacy practices change.
